First German parent blogger meet-up

Familie am LaptopThey are increasingly influential in politics – and they sit in the front rows of the fashion shows: Bloggers are opinion leaders and as such they have become an important part of the public. The blogger Arianna Huffington, creator of the “The Huffington Post”,  has been selected by “Time” magazine as one of the 100 most influential people worldwide.  Now parents too, are raising their voice in the blogosphere.  Familotel, a company with its HQ in Amerang in Bavaria, recognised the importance of parent bloggers and is now intensifying its Social Media activities by hosting a blogger meet-up.

This first German parent blogger meet-up is being organised by Griffiths Consulting. The Munich Social Media and PR agency has its own network of German-language parent bloggers.  The agency has particularly broad experience with the family, kids and youth target group and works across industry sectors, for instance tourism, fashion, toys, education and hobby. It was founded in 2004 by Ulrica Griffiths, who had been heading Public Relations of Lego in Central Europe. Her team’s core competencies include strategic consulting, corporate and creative brand PR, social media as well as crisis PR in cases such as litigation or product recalls.

Familotel is the leading cooperation for family hotels in Europe. “We want to offer ten leading parent bloggers a family-friendly platform for exchange – as parents and as bloggers”, Familotel CEO Michael Albert comments. The event is supported by Pelikan, the school materials experts.

Very early, Griffiths Consulting saw the potential of bloggers in word-of-mouth marketing. “Blogs offer parents the chance to voice their thoughts and to get tips from other parents”, says Ulrica Griffiths. The agency has been keeping close contact with parent bloggers since 2005 and increasingly includes them in the PR for topics which are relevant to families.

The blogger meet-up takes place from October 26th until 28th at the Familotel Borchard’s Rookhus in the Mecklenburg lake district. First of all, the bloggers are guests, but at the same time they will be critical testers who can give immediate and personal feedback. Familotel has been using the huge potential of the internet for years: The hotel cooperation not only communicates through Facebook, but also has its own Blog and a YouTube channel.

The bloggers can look forward to an interesting event programme which includes a discussion about the professionalisation of blogs as well as a creative and online writing workshop. The workshop is run by Julia Ritter who is a blogger herself and who teaches Web Publishing at the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg. While the bloggers are taking part in the programme, their partners and children can enjoy happy holidays in Familotel quality.
